Hedgerow Print is an independent lithographic printing company based near Exeter in Devon. Since our inception, Sound in Theory has provided the print design for their family-run business, and used them as our main printer for the lithographic and printing needs of our clients. We now operate as Hedgerow Print’s design team, executing the design jobs that go beyond the scope of what Hedgerow Print likes to take on in-house. This includes creating business cards, brochures and flyers, and designing logos and creating complete company identities as part of branding projects.
In 2005, Creative Director Si Paull embraced the challenge of redesigning their company. Hedgerow Print’s branding had originally offered a pastoral minimalism, which reflected their rural location and local client base. Sound in Theory embraced that heritage but gave them a fresher, more modern image that brought the company up to date.
The simple logo we created reflects the dynamic, forward-thinking nature of Hedgerow Print, whilst being visually reminiscent of the printing process – the paper feeding through the printer and arriving as a finished product (the small ‘p’) at the end. Hedgerow Print’s original logo used a shade of green, echoing their rural location and company name; our redesign uses a lighter, more engaging green to give their brand a brighter edge, and features orange as an accent colour to compliment the green and add an extra dose of vibrancy. The colour palette of the logo combines with the fresh, natural and clean imagery used in their branding to reflect Hedgerow Print’s continued commitment to the environment, and their devotion to producing innovative, quality-finished results for local businesses. The redesign invites new customers to use the company’s service, without alienating their existing clientele.
This dynamic brand has been applied throughout Hedgerow Print’s substantial range of printing materials and stationery, including staff uniforms, promotional calendars, business stationery, building signs, advertising and the company van. The rebranding has helped Hedgerow Print to move forward as a company, by giving them something they didn’t have in over 19 years in the industry – a solid company identity.
Since redesigning the company’s branding, as part of our ongoing relationship, Sound in Theory has designed our most comprehensive range of business stationery for Hedgerow Print. As a commercial printing company, Hedgerow Print’s vast amount of printing materials needs to be produced with a mark of quality that their clients expect. Sound in Theory achieve this with cohesion, creating excellent printing material that includes receipt pads, delivery notes, proof forms, notepads, labels, customer enquiry pads, labels, stickers, t-shirts, van signage, building signage, full-colour brochures, marketing material and a small brochure to attract new clients to Hedgerow Print.
In March 2009, Sound in Theory launched Hedgerowprint.co.uk – Hedgerow Print’s first website. Paying close attention to Hedgerow Print’s branding, the site utilised Sound in Theory’s best web design, web development, SEO and copywriting services to give Hedgerow Print a brilliant online presence.
Sound in Theory’s Exeter web designers and developers ensured the whole website reflects the cutting-edge nature of Hedgerow Print’s printing techniques, whilst mirroring the friendly and personal service that their team provides. The HTML website features SEO-friendly flash elements, including a clean, crisp flash slideshow displaying images of hedgerow wildlife. The flash slideshow, as well as rural images peppered throughout the site, reflects Hedgerow Print’s Devon location and the local service and environmentally-friendly printing that they are dedicated to providing. For the site we used an engaging colour scheme that adheres to Hedgerow Print’s standard colour palette, and complements the layout’s white space. Fresh, contemporary and easy to navigate, Hedgerowprint.co.uk is the perfect website for a local, but far from archaic, printing company.
Working with key members of Hedgerow Print, Sound in Theory’s copywriter created the website’s content. We agreed the copy needed to outline the range of printing services that Hedgerow Print provides and the cutting-edge technology they use, yet with a friendliness that reflects their approachable team. With bold, captivating headlines; pithy information; and a vibrant and trustworthy tone; the site’s content provides engaging, clear information for any visitors looking to find out more about Hedgerow Print's printing services, whilst reflecting the friendly customer service that their company is renowned for. All the site's content is dense with keywords and key phrases that target the local area, in line with the SEO strategy that Sound in Theory created for the website.
Client Testimonial
Effective design comes from a good knowledge of the company it's for - this is Sound in Theory's forte. They really took the time to understand what our company does and who our target audience are, and tailored the designs accordingly. The result is a strong image that we are fiercely proud of.
Sound in Theory's abundent knowledge is delivered in a relaxed manor, which doesn't intimidate and inspires confidence. And it's because of this approach that I trust them to deal with us, and direct with some of our biggest clients.
Our five year relationship continues to go from strength to strength and their next project is our website, which I'm confident will be another success, I can't wait for the results!
